Bella Cruz As Cover Story Interview – July 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I usually say, “Hi, I’m a storyteller in front of the camera, behind it, and sometimes on a stage or a page.” I’m an actor, writer, and producer with a background in dance and music, and I’ve never been afraid to create my own lane. Whether I’m performing, writing, or pitching a new series, my goal is always to bring something original and real to the table. I love telling stories that make people feel seen and maybe laugh a little too!
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
One of the most difficult periods of my life was navigating a cancer diagnosis while dealing with profound grief. I lost both of my parents just four months apart a loss that shook the foundation of my world. Still reeling from that, I was suddenly faced with a life-threatening illness, and I had to go through it without the support system I had always leaned on. There were days when the physical toll of treatment was overwhelming, but the emotional isolation the silence in moments I wished I could call my mom or dad was the hardest part. I had to learn how to show up for myself in ways I never expected. And yet, through all of this, I kept pursuing my acting career. Not because it was easy, but because it was the one place where I could still connect to something bigger than myself. The stage and screen became my therapy, my release, and a reminder of why I keep fighting. This journey taught me strength, patience, and the importance of believing in yourself even when no one else is around to do it for you. I’m still standing and still acting not in spite of my hardships, but because of them.
What do people usually not know about you?
Most people are surprised to learn how deeply connected I am to sports and movement. I roller skate at a professional level something I absolutely love and I also played competitive tennis in college. I recently picked tennis back up, and it feels amazing to return to that part of myself. On top of that, I snowboard, water ski, and pretty much love anything that challenges me physically. But what really shaped me from the start was dance. I began my career as a dancer and choreographer, which opened the door to music. That journey led me to write and perform an entire album, and I had the incredible experience of touring internationally as a singer with music I had written myself. So while many know me through my acting work, what they might not see is the athlete, the dancer, and the songwriter who’s always been there, moving, creating, and pushing boundaries behind the scenes.
What sets you apart from others?
I’m resilient, determined, and deeply resourceful. When doors don’t open for me, I find a window or build my own. There was a time when I wasn’t getting the roles I wanted as an actor, so instead of waiting around, I started writing. That decision changed everything. My scripts began getting real traction, leading to sales and options with major networks, creating new opportunities I hadn’t imagined before. Eventually, I launched my own production company, Bellavision, where I’ve developed, sold, and optioned projects to major networks. That leap wasn’t just about career growth it was about taking ownership of my voice and vision. Now I’m creating work that yields real opportunities, for myself and for others. What further sets me apart is that I don’t wait for permission to create. I don’t just chase opportunities I build them. I’ve faced personal and professional challenges that could’ve broken me, but I keep moving forward with purpose. Whether I’m acting, writing, or producing, I bring a strong work ethic, a clear point of view, and a deep belief in telling stories that matter and making sure they get seen. I’m not just creating for myself I’m also passionate about building community. That’s why I created a podcast for creatives, Pageing Creatives, to open up conversations around the frustration and isolation that often come with pursuing a career in entertainment. I sit down with professionals who’ve carved their own paths to share real talk, real journeys, and real tools to inspire, encourage, and help others find their own way forward. For me, success isn’t just about the work I make it’s about contributing to a better infrastructure for others to succeed too. What are your upcoming major events?
I’m honored to be on the EMMY ballot for the third year in a row and this time, not just as an actor, but also as a writer and producer. The project is a short-form office comedy called Business People, which I’m incredibly proud of. What makes this especially significant is that I wrote for 16 unique characters, making sure each had a distinct voice and purpose a major creative challenge, especially within the constraints of short-form storytelling. This project was submitted through the Television Academy’s Peer Group Performers Circle, and what I achieved with Business People was groundbreaking something that hadn’t been done in that space before. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8CzXeVJ3tA&list=PLPnvrx30KpO5LUZa2sI4BDznrLJITsoib …and I’m excited to see how it resonates during awards season as it’s been a huge moment for me creatively stepping behind the scenes to shape a story that connects, entertains, and innovates.
What expert advice would you like to give?
Don’t wait for someone to choose you. Choose yourself. If the roles aren’t coming, write them. If the doors aren’t opening, build your own. The industry can be tough, and it’s easy to feel like you’re constantly seeking permission but the real breakthrough happens when you stop waiting and start creating. Also, resilience matters just as much as talent. You’re going to hear “no” more times than you can count but those rejections don’t define you. How you respond to them does. And finally: know your voice. Whether you’re acting, writing, or producing, stay rooted in what makes you you. Authenticity cuts through. People connect with what’s real so bring that to your work, every time.
