How do you introduce yourself?

Hi. I’m Anastasia and I live life with an open heart. I love deeply, cherish connection, laugh often, and find joy in the simple things. Whether I’m doing the things I love or spending time with the people who matter most, I never take a day for granted. Gratitude shapes everything I do, because just being here feels like a gift.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

I grew up with a single mom who was my entire world until I lost her to lung cancer at 64 years old. I had a very complicated identical twin pregnancy which led to losing one of the babies at 23 weeks. I then carried them both for another 10 weeks until delivery. I lost my dad very suddenly while in a nursing home when the covid pandemic began and never got to say goodbye or give him a proper funeral. After 12 years of pure, unconditional love, I lost my dog to cancer and held him in my arms as he took his last breath. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had five surgeries all in one year.

What do people usually not know about you?

All the struggle and hard work behind everything good in my life. The daily physical pain, made even worse by my cancer medication. That each new day I am gifted I make a conscious choice to focus on the positive rather than the negative aspects of my life.

What sets you apart from others?

Whatever I do, I do wholeheartedly.

What are your upcoming major events?

Ending my 21st year of teaching, followed by a summer in Greece, my 46th birthday, and reaching 5 years of being cancer free.

What expert advice would you like to give?

It is both unfortunate and inevitable that life will present challenges and hardships at some point. The world will tell you to tuck away your pain and never talk about it. Fight that with all you have and never let shame win. Recognizing that joy and sadness can coexist is essential for finding more light amidst the darkness.
