Alycia Marlayne Ripley As Cover Story Interview – November 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Alycia Marlayne Ripley. I’m sort of a multi-hyphenate now, which makes me happy to say. I’ve been an author/model/actress for years and can now say I’m a screenwriter/director/filmmaker and magazine founder.
What hardships have you gone through in life?
I’ve had many loved ones pass away from a young age. I can often feel very alone. I also found myself, particularly in my early life, in misaligned environments and around misaligned people. I could go on about that topic but I will keep it at the Cliff Notes version. When I began paving my way with work, I unfortunately never had many contacts or a network so my path did take longer, and necessitated more trial and error and research than for some in the entertainment registry. It can be frustrating but I’ve also had the time to really prepare my projects. I remember someone saying that you should take the time to truly become ready for when someone passes you the ball. So, I can feel disappointed or frustrated at times but it’s never bitter or resentful. We all have certain advantages and it’s up to us to maximize them to overcome challenges.
What do people usually not know about you?
I’m an only child. I have 10 tattoos, each of which carry heavy personal meaning. I have an incredibly dichotomous personality such as I can be very social and love being around people but I also can really want to be alone and not even want to answer texts. I’m heavily analog and love actual writing, less reliance on technology, real physical media like Blu-rays and DVDs. My three short films have won various awards this past year from Best Writer/Director to Audience Favorite. I have three novels and one memoir published and in stores. I founded ‘Antihero’ magazine, an interview-based publication and we have two issues currently released. I’ve lived and worked in New York City, Los Angeles, DC, Buffalo, Australia, in Hawaii. I’m in Aries with an Aquarius moon, Virgo ascendant, and Gemini in my 10th house which really says everything about me. I have a Patreon subscription site for my writing, both exclusive and in advance essays and behind the scenes material. I also have an Only Fans for visual media and vintage style references and homages to classic girly magazines.
What sets you apart from others?
A friend called me a ‘finisher’ recently, meaning that I originate large ideas and turn them into a reality, taking the project from start to finish. I didn’t realize everyone was not like this but I always do bring my projects to ultimate completion whether that’s publication and distribution in stores or founding a magazine from idea to release. I suppose I’m unusual in that professional storytelling was the only thing I ever wanted and planned to do. I’ve never had a Plan B.
What are some upcoming major events?
There’s a lot coming down the pipeline. I recently launched the second issue of my magazine, ‘Antihero’, finished up the festival circuit for my 3 short films, one of which is lined up to be played on TV on the Shudder network. I’m working to finish a new memoir to be released next year and move my future film debut through development. I’m very much working to finalize the production company aspect of Antihero, as well as creating a comprehensive website with my visual designer.
What expert advice would you give?
Always think outside the box. Don’t listen to ‘the way’ to do things. That’s limiting, boring, and often wrong. One way will not work for thousands of people with different visions, talent levels, background, and experience. Make your own way. Call or email someone in the industry that you would like to be in. Reach out to representatives of people you admire and have a question for. It might take a while to find contact information but if they’re reasonably accessible, it’ll happen. Don’t box yourself in by what people say is ‘the way.’ Often those people don’t want to be helpful, sad as that may sound, or even see you succeed forward. Find and choose solid mentors, ask questions, and make moves that feel right and make sense to you as well as that utilize your personal resources. Don’t follow the crowd or the words of those who don’t have your tenacity, talent, or specific vision.
