Alicia Coppola As Cover Story Interview – May 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I am Alicia Coppola. You killed my father prepare to die. 😉
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
I have had a lot of losses in my life. I have lost loved one’s, pregnancies, roles, money…you name it. I think, however the most powerful and life-changing loss was the diagnosis when I was twelve and death when I was twenty two of my father to brain cancer. I never recovered. I was never the same. I am not the same. It has informed all that I am.
What do people usually not know about you?
I am very funny in a dark gallows humor way. I don’t suffer fools lightly, and I like being alone. I have a penchant for handbags, couldn’t care less about shoes, and am a skin care junky. I am a huge LGBTQ+ and Alzheimer’s advocate. I believe my smile is my superpower: I don’t know where people are coming from or where they’re going, but if my smile is the only one a person sees in a day, then I have done my job as a human.
What sets you apart from your competitors in the industry and in life?
I never think of myself or my peers as competitors. I think of them as allies, as friends. My light does not dim theirs, nor their’s mine. There is enough greatness for all of us. Having said that…. I am very talented in many aspects and am not ashamed to say it. I am my biggest fan. I have a fierce work ethic and am not afraid of the word “No.” Spite, in its most positive meaning, is my favorite emotion. I am unafraid of life and all it holds. Other than death, which I have dealt with all my life, I welcome, can, and will surpass all obstacles. Bring it on. My father used to tell me….”If they knock you down, they’d better knock you out. Because if you get up, only God alone will help them.”
What are your upcoming major events – Unforgettable Moments or products/services that you want to promote/inform?
I just wrote, directed, and produced a short film, And You Are…? starring Jane Seymour, Zach Barack, and Diana Lu. It is the story of a grandmother declining with Alzheimer’s who only has the past to prove her existence, and her transgender grandson who desperately wants to erase his past as it never proved who he authentically is. It is a love letter to both communities. I would very much like to use my film as a teaching moment: We are all not as dissimilar as we think. I would love my film to inspire compassion, acceptance and understanding for both our elderly and our LGBTQ+ loved ones.I also just optioned a book called The Favorites by a lovely author, Rosemary Hennigan. I am in the process of having a screenplay written for me to direct. Fingers crossed!
What expert advice would you like to give?
NO is not in concrete. NO is merely a “not today.” I think “YES” can be scary because new is scary. Changing people’s perspective of you is challenging. But understand it is a them problem, not a you problem. Persevere and never give up. At the end of the day, outwork, out-think, outperform, and out-do everyone. They will be exhausted while you’re just getting started. They’ll never see you coming. I love that.
