Here is the Q&A session we had with Sherrell Duncan.

Sherrell Duncan As Cover Story Interview – August 2026 Magazine Edition

How do you introduce yourself?

I’m Sherrell Duncan a wife, mother, entrepreneur, author, speaker, wellness advocate, community connector, and co-host of The Good Morning Show on WPGC 95.5 in Washington, D.C.

But beyond the titles, I’m a woman who genuinely believes that my life is supposed to make an impact. Whether I have a microphone in my hand, I’m speaking to someone one-on-one, walking alongside women on a wellness journey, or I’m outside in the community, my goal is the same: leave people better than I found them.

I’ve been moving and shaking since I was 18 years old, and I’m still evolving. I believe every part of my journey the beautiful parts and the hard parts prepared me for the work I’m doing now.

Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?

My life has required me to reinvent myself more than once.

I’ve experienced rejection, disappointment, financial uncertainty, complicated relationships, entrepreneurship, career transitions, and seasons where I questioned whether everything I had worked for would ever come together.

One of the biggest transformations of my life came when I made the decision to get sober in January 2024. That decision forced me to meet myself differently. I had to learn how to sit with my emotions, establish boundaries, heal, pray, communicate, and navigate life without using anything to escape what I was feeling.

There were also years when I watched other people seemingly arrive at destinations I had been working toward for a very long time. I had to learn that somebody else’s timeline wasn’t evidence that I had been forgotten.

I’ve learned that struggle can either make you bitter or make you intentional. I chose intentional. A lot of what I pour into people today was born from things I had to survive, learn, unlearn, and heal from myself.

What do people usually not know about you?

People see the personality, the microphone, the confidence and the energy, but I’m actually an extremely reflective person.

I think deeply about my purpose, my family, my relationships and whether the things I’m doing are actually creating impact.

People also may not realize how long I’ve been working toward the opportunities they see today. Having a microphone in my hand isn’t new for me. More than 15 years ago, I created and hosted a show called On The Leather With Sherrella, centered around love, sex and relationships. I’ve been an entrepreneur for more than two decades, authored a devotional called God Made Me Wait, created wellness experiences, hosted conversations and continuously found ways to bring people together.

So when people see me on WPGC today, they may see a new chapter. For me, it feels like the continuation of a story God has been writing for a very long time.

What sets you apart from others?

I don’t just want an audience, I want impact.

I love media, but I also believe the microphone should leave the studio.

That’s why community is such an important part of what I do. Through initiatives like PASSING YOU THE MIC with Sherrell Duncan, I go directly into communities and businesses to listen to people, amplify their voices, support small businesses and create genuine human connection.

I’m willing to pray with somebody, laugh with somebody, cry with somebody, walk five miles with somebody, interview somebody, promote somebody’s business, or simply hand them the microphone and let them speak.

I don’t believe influence is just about how many people know your name. Influence is what happens when your name gives you the ability to open a door, and you decide to hold that door open for somebody else.

That’s the kind of influence I want.

What are your upcoming major events?

One of the things I’m most excited about is the 11th Annual Dear Self Brunch Weekend, and this year we’re taking it to SEA! Dear Self Brunch at Sea is happening April 30–May 3, 2027. It’s an experience centered around sisterhood, celebration, wellness, connection, pouring back into ourselves, and creating memories together.

I’m also continuing to grow PASSING YOU THE MIC with Sherrell Duncan, a community-focused activation that brings radio directly to the people while highlighting local businesses, community organizations, and individuals doing meaningful work.

Of course, I’m continuing my work on The Good Morning Show on WPGC 95.5, where every morning I have the opportunity to entertain, inform, encourage, and connect with the DMV.

Wellness remains a huge part of my work as well, including community walking experiences and opportunities that encourage people especially women to prioritize themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually.

There are also some exciting partnerships and projects developing behind the scenes that I can’t wait to share.

This season for me is really about expansion without losing authenticity. I want everything I build to get bigger, but I never want it to stop feeling personal.

Information and registration for Dear Self Brunch at Sea, along with everything else I have coming up, can be found through the link in my Instagram bio.

What expert advice would you like to give?

Stop waiting until you feel completely ready. EXECUTE.

Some of the greatest opportunities in my life started as an idea that I decided to move on.

You can pray about something and still have to participate in the answer to that prayer.

Start the business. Send the email. Make the phone call. Ask the question. Create the event. Walk into the room. Take care of your body. Protect your peace. Set the boundary. And if something isn’t working, give yourself permission to pivot.

Most importantly, stop measuring your life against somebody else’s timeline.

I wrote a devotional called God Made Me Wait, and life has continuously reminded me why. Waiting doesn’t always mean you’re being denied. Sometimes you’re being developed into the person who can actually sustain what you’ve been asking for.

Your journey doesn’t have to look like anybody else’s to be successful.
