Rachel Thomas (Writer, Director, and Producer) was recently interviewed by TheCelebrity.Online Magazine and here is the Q&A session we had with Rachel.
Rachel Thomas As Cover Story Interview – February 2026 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
I introduce myself as a writer, director, and producer who tells bold, emotionally driven stories—often through genre—that explore power, identity, and resilience. My work centers complex women and examines the quieter, darker corners of human behavior. I’m passionate about filmmaking and storytelling as both an art form and a collaborative process, and I’m invested in telling stories that stay with audiences long after the credits roll.
What hardships have you gone through in life?
I’ve been very fortunate to not have faced many real hardships in my life. But in terms of the filmmaking process, like many creatives, my journey has been shaped as much by “rejection” as by success. I’ve navigated the ongoing challenge of asserting my voice in an industry that can be both competitive and often male dominated. Balancing creative ambition with financial realities, learning when to push forward and when to pivot, and continuing to believe in my work during quieter periods does strengthen my resilience and clarify why I tell the stories I do.
What do people usually not know about you?
What people often don’t see is how introspective and detail oriented I am. I spend a lot of time observing—how people move through the world, what they avoid saying, and how emotional truth often lives in the subtext. While my stories may feel intense or provocative, they’re rooted in empathy and curiosity about human complexity. I’m also very persistent and passionate about hard work, which may not be something people see since writing and the majority of creative work is often a more private endeavor.
What sets you apart from others?
Maybe that I’m unafraid, and enjoy exploring discomfort, both creatively and emotionally. I gravitate toward characters who are flawed, complicated, and deeply human, and I don’t shy away from difficult themes. Wearing multiple hats as a writer, director, and producer allows me to protect the creative vision while also understanding the logistics of bringing a project to life. That combination gives me a strong, grounded perspective and helps me lead with clarity and confidence.
What are your upcoming major events?
I’m continuing to build momentum around my short film Dissection Day, which has been screening on the festival circuit and resonating strongly with audiences. I’m on my way to the Austin Revolution Film Festival right now, where I’m honored to be the recipient of the Female Filmmaker of the Year Award. In addition, I’m actively developing new projects—both short and feature-length—that expand on the themes I’m most passionate about. I’m also deepening collaborations with fellow filmmakers as I move into the next chapter of my career.
What expert advice would you like to give?
My advice is to start before you feel ready and stay committed to your voice. This industry rewards persistence more than perfection. Learn the business side of your craft, surround yourself with people who respect your vision, and don’t be afraid to take up space. If you keep creating, keep learning, and keep showing up—even when it feels uncomfortable—your work will find its audience.
