CMAGIC5 As Cover Story Interview – November 2025 Magazine Edition
How do you introduce yourself?
Hey! I’m professionally known as CMAGIC5 — a Canadian singer/songwriter, artist, mental health advocate, and entrepreneur from Toronto. I like to call myself a rock chick in a pop world: my sound blends edgy pop-rock with punk-infused energy, powerhouse vocals and unapologetic storytelling that empowers. I grew up performing, composing, and obsessing over the craft, and now I’m creating an ecosphere where high-energy anthems, authenticity, and main-character confidence all collide.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Growing up, I was bullied in elementary school, and although that was one of the darkest periods of my life, quite paradoxically, that was the time I discovered my passion and skill for songwriting. I had written, composed and produced my first EP entirely on my own around the age of 12 and knew that I wanted to pursue a professional career in music for the rest of my life. As an independent artist who didn’t come from a wealthy background or industry connections, I’ve had my fair share of challenges navigating an industry that often idealizes gatekeepers before talent, but it’s also why I’m proud to own my masters, stay creatively free, and build an authentic relationship with my audience from the ground up. It’s made me more resilient, more determined, and honestly, hungrier.
What do people usually not know about you?
Most people don’t know that I graduated from the University of Toronto with High Distinction and a specialist honours degree in Digital Management. I was literally living a double “Hannah Montana” life between classes and the studio. I love challenging the idea that you have to choose between being a rockstar and being educated. Stay wild, stay educated, you can do both. Personally, earning that University degree felt like true rockstar behaviour. Also, I’ve been told I’m known for my signature long hair and nails sharp as a knife. What they may not know is that they are 100% — natural – no extensions, no acrylics. Another cool fact is that I have a background in classical vocal training and am a qualified vocal mentor. I love teaching youth and creating little mini-CMAGIC5s in the process, hehe.
What sets you apart from others?
I genuinely wear every hat in my career — from digital marketing to creative direction to styling to bookings, while still giving my all onstage and in the studio. I have a supportive, small yet strong team behind me, but I’m very hands-on and deeply invested in every detail. I also reply to almost every comment and message because I strive to have a connection with my fans that is real, not transactional. And while I make pop-leaning music, I perform like a rock band with a full live band, stadium energy, and an electrifying show experience you feel in your chest.
What are your upcoming major events ?
I’m grateful to have just wrapped a dynamic national summer festival tour across Canada with my high-energy band, and now I’m gearing up to release my sophomore EP “Happy Never After” on Nov 28. It’s crafted with an A-team of Juno Award–winning producers and songwriters, and I’m so excited for listeners to fully experience this chapter of my sound. I am also gearing up for an electrifying New Year’s Eve performance to ring in 2026 with a bang!!!
What expert advice would you like to give?
For artists/creators: Trust your identity more than the industry’s opinion of you. Study the greats, but do not dilute yourself trying to fit into a mold because authenticity is your strongest advantage. You are unique. Use setbacks as opportunities to refine your vision, and treat rejection as redirection rather than a verdict. Show up consistently, keep sharpening your craft, and build genuine connections with the people who support you. When you move with intention and confidence in who you are, everything eventually aligns.
