How do you introduce yourself?
Born in the South Bronx, Tony Aguilar boasts over 30 years of experience in public service, as a community organizer, workshop leader, public speaker, writer, social commentator, and workforce development professional. Throughout his career, Tony has been engaged in initiatives related to affordable housing, economic development, and environmental cleanup. As the assistant to the Lutheran Bishop of New York, he played a pivotal role in founding the Urban Leaders Institute, which trained congregational leaders, and the Urban Empowerment Fund, which provided grants to churches working with underserved communities. Tony has hosted and produced a radio show featuring interviews with public figures, and a public access cable program focused on national issues. He has been quoted by major publications such as the New York Daily News, The New York Times, Newsday, and the Jersey Journal. Tony is the author of four books including his latest Is America Broken or Has it Always Been this Way? which explores whether the challenges America faces today are truly new or part of a longer historical pattern.
What Hardships Did You Go Through In Your Life?
My biggest hardship was losing my wife to cancer.
What makes you unique?
What makes me unique is my inquisitive nature about many things from politics, philosophy to music.
What do people usually not know about you?
I am an introvert in big crowds. This leads to people sometimes considering me aloof.
What sets you apart from rest?
What sets me apart is my ability to maintain a sense of calm when things don’t work out the way I expected.
What are your upcoming major events?
I am presently working on my new book which will be out in the Fall of 2026. I will also be restarting my podcast The Aguilar Conversations: A Global Perspective which features interviews about international issues.
Food preferences and physical attributes?
I love southern cooking as well as Italian.
Your love life and family?
While I am single, I mostly enjoy hanging out with family and friends.
What expert advice would you like to give?
My expert advice is to be open to changing your opinion about a particular subject or person if the research warrants it.
