How do you introduce yourself?

“My name is Amira Jane Lerario. I am a model, actor, writer, athlete and mother to four wonderful children who are now finding their own way in the world. I am a competitive runner and compete in marathons around the world. I’ve ran over 40 marathons (I’ve lost count now). I have run all 7 Abbott World Marathon Majors, some several times, which are Boston, New York, Chicago, Berlin, London, Tokyo & Sydney. I have also competed in 3 Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Championships – London ’22, Chicago ’23 & Sydney ’24. I am a former Certified USATF & RRCA Running Coach and ACE Personal Trainer (2011-2021). I am a published writer with a B.A. in English and Creative Writing. I write fiction, nonfiction, poetry and screenplays. A favourite article that I wrote was a Feature for Road Runners Club of America highlighting my wonderful journey running the 6 Abbott World Marathon Majors. I also have an extensive background and training in all areas of the Hotel, Catering & Institutional Management Industry.”

What hardships have you gone through in life?

“I have gone through quite a few hardships in life, but I won’t bore you with them all – I’ll highlight one. The move from the UK to the US at the age of 25 was a huge hardship and culture shock. I knew no one beyond my husband, his family and friends, and all my family and friends were in the UK, so it was often a lonely time. I also faced other challenges beyond the loneliness. Although English is the spoken language in both cultures, Americans do not speak the same English language as British people. Many times I have had to repeat myself over misunderstood words and accent. Different beliefs and values were, and still are difficult to adjust to. Going to the grocery store was an all-day event as I pondered for hours which brands I should buy. My ethnic ambiguity has also caused quite a stir, especially when I open my mouth to speak and out dances a British accent! It wasn’t until I had children 10 years later that I began to feel more part of the culture.”

What do people usually not know about you?

“During my college years I worked as a bartender in nightclubs. At one of these nightclubs, I was also a dancer. No not a stripper or I wouldn’t have mentioned it, ha ha…I was one of a select group of employees who entertained the drunken nightclub punters by feverishly dancing around at the end of the bar.”

What sets you apart from others?

“I think the fact that I am a “Doer” sets me apart from others. I don’t spend my time dreaming, I don’t worry about what I’m going to do next or how I’m going to achieve it; I just set out and do it. If I want it, I’m going for it. I have been blessed with an array of talents, and that coupled with my thirst for exploration, something new, my next challenge, constantly has me on the move.”

What are your upcoming major events?

“Marathon training will be back in full swing in a couple of months as I am registered to run the Rome Marathon. I’ve always wanted to visit Rome, so I thought “what better way to see the city than by running the marathon!” I am also in the process of seeking representation in the UK alongside the US as a model & actor.”

What expert advice would you like to give?

“Travel, travel, travel! A whole world awaits to be endlessly explored. Confidence, self-awareness, knowledge, resilience, adaptability, empathy, and an understanding and gratitude for different cultures and ways of life are achievable through the wonders of travel.”
