How do you introduce yourself?
Hi! I’m Tea Cheney, a proud Canadian actress, TV host, and model. My roots are deeply embedded in the arts, thanks to my family, which has fueled my love for storytelling and creativity. I kicked off my journey with ballet at the National Ballet of Canada and later took to figure skating competitively in Ontario. Eventually, my path led me to the world of acting and television hosting. I’ve had the incredible opportunity to travel the globe as a television host of a travel program, meeting amazing people like Sophia Loren, Rob Lowe, and Al Pacino along the way. In 2013, I welcomed my son Max into the world, and it’s been a joy watching him grow. He started playing the piano at just six years old, and within months, he was performing at Scotiabank Arena for the Toronto Maple Leafs in front of 20,000 fans! I was fortunate to homeschool Max until grade four, allowing me to devote my time to him, which I cherish. He’s a talented young musician and artist who inspires me daily.
Struggle – What hardships have you gone through in life?
Like many in the arts, I’ve faced my share of challenges, especially dealing with self-doubt. Balancing my career with raising Max can be demanding, but I’m grateful for the support of my mom, dad, and brother. Being a single mom has its tough moments, but every obstacle has taught me resilience and the importance of pursuing my passions while nurturing Max’s interests.
What do people usually not know about you?
I write a lot! It’s one of my favorite ways to express myself, and storytelling is something I’m truly passionate about. I also love helping Max with fundraising for various charities across Canada, like Meagan’s Hug for Sick Children’s Hospital, Save The Children Canada and the Children’s Aid Foundation. I’m so proud of his generosity; he’s raised over $25,000! Personally, I enjoy gardening and spending time outdoors. Growing up by the seaside in Split, Croatia, I developed a love for swimming and find peace in expressing my creativity through different art media. I hope to share that passion with Max as he continues to grow.
What sets you apart from others?
My artistic upbringing has given me a unique perspective in my work. I approach my roles with a deep understanding of the creative process and a commitment to authenticity. Balancing my career while nurturing Max’s talent keeps me grounded and focused. I really appreciate my family, even if I don’t say it enough, so I want to take a moment to thank them for their unwavering support in all my decisions and for helping me raise Max!
What are your upcoming major events?
I’m currently working on some exciting projects, there’s an upcoming book release titled ‘The Big Book of Tiny Creatives, 2nd edition,’ featuring Max’s artwork. I’m also cheering him on as he continues to perform and grow as a musician. Stay tuned for announcements about our events!
What expert advice would you like to give?
Believe in yourself and follow your passion, even when the path seems daunting. Surround yourself with supportive people who uplift you, and never hesitate to chase your dreams. It’s essential to instill this mindset in the next generation, just as I do with Max. And don’t wait! Take risks, love deeply, travel often, and feel everything because we only have this moment.
