Emilie Culshaw As Cover Story Interview – July 2025 Magazine Edition
Introduction – Who is Emilie Culshaw?
I am a 20-year-old dream pop artist from Liverpool, the home of the Beatles. My music combines tender vocals with heartfelt storytelling, drawing inspiration from artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Madison Beer, and Lana Del Rey. In 2024, I signed with Big Condo Records and im set to release my debut single, Trapdoor, on the 13th July 2025. I would say im very fun and these nothing more I love than making music.
How Have You Grown Over the Years?
As a child, I always dreamed of being a performer, but standing on a stage felt impossible at the time. After years of practice and perseverance, I can now perform confidently—and honestly, it’s my favourite thing in the world! Performing used to be my biggest fear, and now it’s what I live for. So, if you’re someone who feels like that now—please know that if I can do it, you absolutely can too. Just keep going!
What Hardships Have You Faced?
One of the hardships I have faced is anxiety and I have dealt with that for many years, I’m stronger now than I’ve ever been. Those experiences taught me patience, resilience, and self-love. I’m grateful for what I’ve been through because it shaped me into the artist and person I am today. I now have a passion for helping others through their hardships, and I encourage everyone to lead with kindness—you never know what someone else is going through. What you put out, you get back.
Tell Us About the New Single Trapdoor?
Trapdoor is all about breaking through and moving forward. It’s about closing the “trapdoor” on the past—letting go of anxiety, self-doubt, and fear—and learning to believe in yourself. So much heart went into this song, and I can’t wait for it to belong to the world.
It’s the most honest and vulnerable piece I’ve written to date. For me, it’s about releasing what no longer serves you and finally feeling free. Of course, everyone will interpret it differently, and that’s the beauty of music.
What Makes You Unique as an Artist?
I like to write about vulnerable situations in a way that transforms pain into purpose and vulnerability into strength. Every song I write comes from personal experience—real moments, real emotions. Each one is like a letter to my younger self, reminding her she’s stronger than she thinks.
You Performed at the Merseyside Women of the Year Awards 2025 – How Was That Experience?
It was absolutely amazing—such an honour. I’m incredibly thankful to the organisers for having me perform in a room full of strong, powerful, and inspiring women.
The song I performed is all about empowerment, so it felt like a full-circle moment. Hearing the stories of the award winners was so moving. A massive shout-out to Ellie for organising such an incredible event, and congratulations to Gemma from Iconic for winning the Social Impact Award!
What’s Coming Next for Emilie Culshaw?
My debut single Trapdoor will be released on all streaming platforms on 13th July 2025. It’s such a special song for me—not just because it’s my solo debut, but because it marks the closing of a chapter filled with anxiety, pain, and uncertainty. It represents growth, healing, and stepping into a new version of myself.
To celebrate, I’m hosting a launch party on 13th July at Kazimier Stockroom in Liverpool—my home city. It’s going to be an unforgettable night. Everyone is welcome, and tickets are available via Skiddle!
What’s Your Favourite Food?
Ooh, that’s a hard question! I love a good Chinese—sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice is my go-to. I also love chilli and tomato pasta… and garlic bread. Honestly, I can’t choose just one favourite—there are too many good ones!
What’s It Like Being a Signed Artist?
I’m incredibly grateful to my team—they’re like family to me. Being a signed artist is hard work, but it’s also so rewarding. You grow so much in a short space of time. It’s challenging, yes, but exciting and full of opportunities. And I truly believe hard work always pays off.
If You Could Give One Piece of Advice to Upcoming Artists, What Would It Be?
Being an artist can be tough. Many of us are raised to suppress our creativity due to fear of judgment, which makes it hard to be authentic and use our voices. But my advice is: never be afraid to be yourself. Art is therapy—use it to express, to heal, and to connect.
The path isn’t easy, but if you stay focused and trust yourself, you’ll get where you’re meant to be. Don’t let anyone dim your light. Surround yourself with people who support you and let go of those who don’t. You deserve to shine.
And lastly—follow me on social media to join me on this journey! I’m @emilieculshaw on all platforms.
